Moodle 3.1 now available on Hosted Moodle.
Moodle 3.1 wraps a lot of new features together with hundreds of fixes and improvements into a great package, released together with Moodle Mobile 3.1 for Android and iOS, which is available now on Google Play and will be in the App store soon.
Martin Dougiamas, Founder and CEO of Moodle, says: I am proud to announce that the most important new feature in this release is the new core support for competencies, which is something we've been talking about and developing in the community for many years. These help when Moodle is used for competency-based education (CBE), "mastery learning" and any technique that involves learning plans based on the things students know, and the things they are yet to know.
In addition to a number of bug fixes and small improvements, security vulnerabilities have been discovered and fixed.
3.0.4 highlights include performance improvements in backups with logs, performance improvements to grade history reports, and Wikimedia repository consistent importing.
For more technical details see the full Moodle 3.0.4 Release Notes.
As always, thanks so much to the entire community of developers, teachers and others who contributed towards this release, and especially the dedicated team at Moodle HQ.
Following the huge performance benefits experienced after upgrading our Moodle hosting to use CDN (Content Delivery Network) based delivery, it is timely to consider further advantages and implications. There are a few related questions we want to address:
Moodle HQ has announced that it's been a busy year for Moodle with some big milestones already like Moodle 2.9 ... and now the release of Moodle Mobile 2.0 for iOS and Android.
The dedicated Moodle HQ Mobile team have been working hard on the MM2 application, having announced it earlier this year, you will be really pleased with the final product. You should experience a smooth upgrade from previous versions but internally it's a completely new app built from the ground up, and you'll soon notice a cleaner-looking, snappier app with some cool new features. MM2 is built on a new open source framework, Ionic, which will really speed up mobile developments in future.
Moodle HQ is once again running a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on Learn.Moodle.net.
